Espèces d'espaces is a meditation on space in all its forms-part philosophical essay part imaginative poetry. From the blank page to the space of the infinite cosmic void, not forgetting urban space, Georges Perec examines his relationship with space in all its dimensions. While the text is not narrative, it has given Philippe Hurel the opportunity to construct a ‘story’ about everyday things, from the most trivial to the most monstrous. On stage, a singer, an actor, twelve musicians, a screen, and a loudspeaker play out snatches of text. These different ‘characters’ express themselves in a nervous counterpoint. Like the story itself, Alexis Forestier's direction moves from the space inside to the space outside, from the usual to the unknown, from the weft to the trace.
