Rebecca Saunders studied composition at the University of Edinburgh with N. Osborne and later with W. Rihm in Germany.

 

One of her main compositional concerns is the study of the sculptural properties of structured sound. chroma explores 19 variations of a scalable collage of 24 chamber groups and sound sources in different architectural spaces. Insideout is a collage for a choreographic installation, in collaboration with S. Waltz.

 

His most ambitious spatial work "yes" is a spatialized performance for soprano, 19 soloists, and conductor, whose musicians move around performing "modules" to form a musical collage. In 2019, she became the first composer to be awarded the Ernst von Siemens Prize for Music.
