The composition workshops are an opportunity for young composers to examine specific themes defined by the academy’s guest composers. Throughout the work sessions and rehearsals with the artists and performers, the young composers will be able to glean knowledge from the experience and advice of their instructors in order to produce a new work.

Chamber Music workshop
The space for compositional imagination and where contemporary music is performed are questions related to the phenomenon of listening. On one hand, music reacts to other music or acoustic experiences in keeping with one’s cultural heritage and experience. Inevitably, a new piece creates a constellation of listening experiences that can be understood within a larger context of one’s acoustic knowledge. On the other hand, music creates a unique perceptive situation positioned in both a specific time and place.
Today, many composers consciously examine these questions while others experience their significance during performance. The students in the ManiFeste-2020 Academy are invited to focus on the idea of "places of listening", either in their compositional projects or during lectures, discussions, and rehearsals throughout the academy. Every composer is asked to choose two groups of instruments for which she or he will compose.
With the complicity of the soloists from the Ensemble intercontemporain, the German composer Isabel Mundry invites 6 young composers in the workshop to examine this question of "places of listening" in their compositional project as well as in classes, discussions, and rehearsals. After working personally with Isabel Mundry, the 6 young composers will attend all rehearsals to complete a work in contact with the soloists and the composer.
Six composers were selected in December 2019 to follow the 2020 workshop and had to cancel due to the international health crisis: Charles M. Champi (Mexico), Patrick Friel (United Kingdom), Zhuosheng Jin (China), Aslıhan Keçebaşoğlu (Turkey), Angus Lee (China), Frej Wedlund (Sweden).
